I’ve been working steadily on commissions and the mural for the airport, which is coming along and might go up sooner than I had thought. Good thing I have it almost done!

I’ve been thinking of participating in Art in the Park in October, to sell paintings and prints, and will keep everyone posted if I decide to do it and what booth I’ll be at.

The Brazilian Grill has changed hands again and is now being run by the same people who run the Black Pepper Grill at Lake Las Vegas and right by the Brazilian Grill. They plan to bring back a lot of good things, including the live entertainment for parts of the week, it should be a lot of fun!

I’ve been attending First Fridays at Las Vegas Rocks in downtown Las Vegas, and selling prints and seeing lots of great performers.

I also was featured in the spring issue of Las Vegas Woman in the arts section. Check it out!

It’s been a while since my last post, I hope you all had a nice holiday! I know I did. I’ve been busy busy busy!

Brazil Brazil has changed, and is now Brazil Grill. It’s still a wonderful place, and my art is still up! It can be bought there, or everything I have up there is on my site.

I’ve got pieces up in two new restaurants too, Vegas Rocks right by the Fremont Experience and Black Pepper out at Lake Las Vegas going up soon. I should be adding the pieces to my site soon for prints. Both restaurants are wonderful and have great food!

The Honoring the Artist Within at the Center for Spiritual Living went really well. I sold a few pieces at the event and a lot of money was raised for a wonderful place. It’s a great place to visit and very good for soul.

I did another event for the Lied Museum, a speak easy to raise money for the museum. It was a really fun time! A piece even sold for as high as $7000. I was happy to donate two of my works to such a great cause.

I helped out with an event called Giving Day, at Psi Seminars. I’m a Psi graduate myself, so it was really nice. I face painted for four hours, and it was great to work with the kids. Every child got a new pair of shoes and a skateboard while they were there, as well as to see Santa. It felt really good to help out.

Let me know what you all have been up to!

Local ‘favorite artist’ Terry Ritter donates Fa La Lolies painting

Las Vegas, NV – Nov 12th, 2009 – Local and international Artist Terry Ritter donates a unique showgirl piece of art “FaLaLolies’ to the Center for Spiritual Living for their fourth annual “Honoring the Artist Within’ event. This Sat., Nov 14th 5p/$5. Spend an evening with ARTIST, TALENT SHOW, SILENT AUCTION… www.cslglv.org – The evening begins at 5pm with a reception featuring a veritable feast of finger foods and beverages. Mingle with friends and view the Center for Spiritual Living art Gallery from fine artist throughout the Las Vegas community; stained glass, photography, paintings as well as other art mediums. The evening continues with a Silent Auction of amazing contributions from local businesses and the congregation. From 7p to 9pn there well be a variety of talent; music, dance, comedy, a full evening of creativity and everyone is welcome…

About this Artist – Terry Ritter

From backstage at the ‘Folies Begere’ Tropicana, this talented young showgirl began painting with her whimsical flair, the Folies Begere showgirls. Twenty years and hundreds of showgirl masterpieces later, Ritter not only has her priceless s oils and geclay hanging in many of the major Las Vegas Resorts, Ms Terry Ritter has also been commissioned to paint a twenty foot (?)mural of the Folies Begere girls to fill up a full wall at the new McCarran International Airport, debuting ???? – 2010?

Terry Ritter is still ‘our favorite artist’ about town, making her talent available to those who would like their own commissioned pieces. Lance Burton is among the several Las Vegas Stars who has commissioned Terry to paint a self-portrait… Ritter continues to be commissioned to paint families, wedding, children, anniversaries as well as Ritter’s specialty these days, ‘couples’ or solo’s in the risqué’… You can now see Ritter and her many whimsical works of art at www.terryritterart.com.

She’s a member of the church too, and a real inspiration to me. She’s helped so many people!

“Always see the world as an abundant, providing, friendly place. If you think it as a hostile place, and of the shortages to there, the universal source of supply will reaffirm your beliefs.”

“A reminder: When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

“When you see the world as abundant and friendly your intentions are genuine possibility. They will in fact become a certainty, because your world will be experienced from these higher frequencies.”

I have a tendency to let my imagination run wild, and his words are always helpful to me, and helps me to create what I do want, instead of what I don’t want. Today I will live in an abundant world!

Christmas cards are coming! I’ve been working on new cards to add to my existing line of Christmas Cards, and I’m really excited about them. You can order them online through my site, as well as prints and giclees of any of my work.

I also finished off the commission for a local dancer. Once it’s been presented I’ll post pictures.

I’ve been working on commissioned children’s portraits the past few months and feel that they’re really coming along.

There was recently an event for the Lied Children’s Discovery Museum here in town, the Fanstasy Gala at Caesars Palace, and it was really great! There was an auction of art, and I donated two of my own paintings. One of the most amazing amounts made was for a painting by Jennifer Main, about $7500! I was really honored to be a part of the event, and it was wonderful to raise so much money for the museum. I loved to see all the dancers and entertainment, and I hope to participate again next year, and raise even more!

I’ve been focusing a lot on my work in Josettes Bistro and Bernard’s Bistro. Josettes is getting ready for a big move in December, so I’ve been really trying to support my friend as she improves and grows her business. I’ve been looking at showcasing one of my favorite pieces in Bernard’s Bistro, An Evening in Paris. It’s 30×40 mueum wrapped giclee that hangs in the restaurant, and really worth going out to see, not only for my art but for the wonderful food. Both restaurants have wonderful french food and lots of entertainment!

I’ve been looking at a few other places to display my work, I’ll post more when I know for sure!

I’ve been starting to use my twitter account more, and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. Is there anyone interesting I should be following? If you have a twitter account let me know and I’ll follow you Any tips you have or anything to make my twittering easier would be great.

There’s a lot of good things in the works, be sure to subscribe to my mailing list to stay up to date on everything I’m doing!

I’ve started to work on the faces of the dancers and I feel it’s really starting to come along.

Also, I’ve been creating more pieces specifically for Brazil Brazil, which is an amazing Brazilian carnival theme.

For Bernards French Bistro, I have the Folies collection, painting and prints, which are for sale as well. I am excited to bring attention to these wonderful restaurants, with excellent menus, if I might add. What I am finding with my art work, now hanging all over Las Vegas, seeing them in these new restaurants with a Brazilian and French flair, is a new twist for me… I have been painting portraits for quite a while and this French & Brazilian flair is just FUN! Check them out on my site http://terryritterart.com The food in both places is wonderful!

If you can’t make it here to Vegas or down to the restaurants, I’ve started selling Giclee prints of most of my work on my website. Check it out!

It’s been almost nine months since Les Folies Bergere at the Tropicana was shut down. It’s still amazing to me that so many tourists probably have no idea what they’re missing, the real showgirl shows are so rare nowadays and Folies ended just before it’s 50th anniversary, which is this Dec 2009. I feel like my art is so important now to help preserve the classic, beautiful image of the showgirl and Las Vegas in it’s heyday.

I was very honored to present Jerry Jackson, creator, choreographer and director of the show since 1975, with one of my sculptures on closing night for the show. It is titled “Express Yourself” and not only imitates one of his famous poses from the show, but is clothed in a tiny reproduction of one of the famous costumes he designed. (a photo with Jackson and my self which is on the site under follies – would like that photo linked to my web site) ( which will be 2 pictures of ‘Express Your Self’ the Sculpture & Painting, over a link back to web site) The beauty of Las Vegas and it’s showgirls won’t be forgotten with these timeless creations of art!

Being a former dancer and backstage painter myself, Jerry Jackson gave me the honor of recreating scenes from the show Les Folies Bergere and many of the show girls in portraits. To see more of my collection, please go to my web site where you can see more Vegas showgirl history, via a UNLV link

I’ve been reading a book called The Complete Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron and have been running across passages that really strike me. One of the ones I’m really in love with now is this:

“As artists we are first and foremost the origin of our work. Since each of us is one of a kind, that market for all it’s supposed predictability is actually vulnerable to falling in love with any one of us at any tme.”

I believe this is so true for every artist. Do the art you love to do, that you know how to to, and that you believe you can do, and and people important to you will love your art as much as you do.

A very excellent restaurant in Las Vegas called Brazil Brazil is displaying my artwork, and I’m very excited. They asked to show a few of my classic pieces, and I’ve done a whole new line of Brazilian-themed work for them. All in all I have about 20 pieces on display in the restaurant, and prints for most of them are being sold right out of the restaurant. I’m trying a new method for printing, so it should be really good. Brazil Brazil is a great place on it’s own, too. The food is wonderful and presented in a three course meal with a live Brazilian styled show. The performers are a lot like the showgirls I paint, but the culture is different. It’s still about bright colors and a bit of flashiness, but where showgirls are almost exclusive to Las Vegas, Brazilian dancers are strongly tied to carnivals and festivals. The food is brought to you, and includes things like shaved meats, as very wide variety of side dishes and tasty deserts. I especially love their plankton dish! You can expect wonderful entertainment, good service and a long, satisfying meal. Brazil Brazil is a new place, but really worth supporting. I can’t see how much they expand and grow!

The head chef at Brazil Brazil is the same as another of my favorite places to eat, Bernard’s Bistro out by Lake Las Vegas. My art is up there as well, including a four foot by five foot piece I did just for the restaurant and many of my classic folie bergere pieces. Bernard’s Bistro is another place where you can expect amazing food and wonderful service, as well as live entertainment. One of my good friends, Lenae Huff, plays live piano there every Wednesday and Thursday night from 8pm to 11pm, and occasionally has guest singers. It’s really worth the trip!
